Playing in the shade of a cherry tree or an olive tree, picking a juicy grape from the vines: a carefree everyday life that the majority of children in Valpolicella have lived and still live and of which the students of the second middle classes of the Comprehensive School by Negrar, protagonists of “La Scuola nel Vigneto“, a project conceived by Cantina Valpolicella Negrar in collaboration with the IC of Negrar, who want to take care of children in the Pediatric Oncology Department of the Borgo Trento hospital in Verona.
Creating a garden with vines, cherry trees and olive trees around Casa Abeo, or Villa Fantelli, a historic building located within the Verona hospital area, granted to the Oncological Emopathic Child Association (Abeo), a non-profit Verona organization for childcare patients and their families, is therefore the social purpose of the seventh edition of the art competition “Label of the year 2018/19 – The landscape of Valpolicella: particularities and details“, point of arrival of a year of lessons held in the classroom, in the vineyard and winery, which will see students being awarded on Thursday 23 May, starting at 5 pm, in the Domìni Veneti conference room of the Negrar cooperative winery.
Vines, cherries and olive trees, ancient symbols of reunion with life. “This year the Commission has taken into account the wishes of the students who have shown themselves to be sensitive to the problems related to the illnesses involving their peers, for which it was decided to devolve the proceeds, for an amount of 5 thousand euros, from the sale of the bottles of wine that will bear the Label of the Year for the reorganization of the large garden belonging to Casa Abeo with the plants symbol of the Valpolicella landscape. In this way we will realize the desire of the guests children: to find, during and after the treatments, a natural space to play “, say Marina Valenti and Adelina Caprini, responsible for the didactic-social project for the cooperative cellar and the school.
To do the honors at the awards ceremony, attended by Pietro Battistoni, president of Abeo Onlus Verona, will be Renzo Bighignoli, president of Cantina Valpolicella Negrar, Carla Aschieri, I.C. Negrar and Roberto Grison, mayor of Negrar. The event will be enlivened by the musical performances of the students of the Orchestra I.C. Negrar, led by professors Carla Tessari, Roberto Raimo, Sergio Baietta and Andrea Stefanoni. In addition to rewarding the podium of honor, the 31 works of the students who reached the final in the competition will also be celebrated.
At the end of the evening, there will be the traditional Domìni Veneti buffet aperitif set up in the fruttaio of the cellar. We recall that the project “The School in the Vineyard” is sponsored by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Negrar and by the Order of Conservative Landscape Planners of Verona and is carried out with the support of Valpolicella Benaco Banca and the technical collaboration of Grafical.
Green labels. Stefano Pistoni of UPM Raflatac will also be present at the event, representing the winery’s partner company in the Rafcycle program, which retrieves the waste of paper-based silicone labels for the Valpolicella Bio and Amarone Domìni Veneti Collection La Scuola nel Vigneto, giving new life to these by-products turning them into paper.
