The famous American critic James Suckling recently tasted the Cantina di Negrar wines, giving excellent scores to Amarone, Ripasso and Appassimento.
Here are James Suckling’s scores and tasting notes:
CANTINA DI NEGRAR AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2016
This is a lighter style of Amarone with dried peppers and redcurrants. Medium-to full-bodied and lightly tannic, it still manages to deliver attractive red fruit and burnt undertones. Drink now.
CANTINA DI NEGRAR VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO SUPERIORE RIPASSO 2017
This very floral and pretty Valpolicella Ripasso is full of energy, as well as lively violets, lavender and citrus. Taut and tightly wound, it edges past vibrant cherries with vivid, succulent appeal. Drink now.
NEGRAR ROSSO VENETO APPASSIMENTO 2018
For an appassimento wine (made from grapes dried after harvest), this show excellent freshness to go with the vivid, intense notes of dried blueberries and citrus. Mediumbodied and medium-chewy with a solid center palate of bright fruit and acidity. Drink now.
